NEXT EDITION | 27-29 MAY 2020

The 2020 edition of DISCOP ABIDJAN is slated to take place from 27 to 29 May at the RADISSON BLU HOTEL

Launched in 2015, DISCOP Abidjan specifically targets 22 francophone Sub-Saharan African countries: Benin, Burundi, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Gabon, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mali, Niger, Rwanda, Seychelles, Senegal and Togo.

With a fast-growing population of 135 million french speaking individuals, Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa boasts 20 million TV households and 7 million pay-tv subscribers. Ever-increasing year-on-year attendance shows the true extent of growth potential in this ensemble of neighboring countries where French is spoken as a first or second language.

This part of the world is a predominantly free TV marketplace challenged by rapidly growing pay TV and digital terrestrial television services, cutting-edge internet users consuming video content online, and the huge rise in mobile phone penetration.

Across these countries and excluding sports rights, public and commercial broadcasters, premium cable channels, cable and satellite operators, telecoms, and mobile and streaming platforms have spent around $170 Million to buy content in 2019 – a 50% increase since the beginning of the decade – and generated close to $750 Million in direct pay-tv / advertising revenues.

Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa is probably the world’s fastest growing entertainment and media marketplace. Lower internet costs, better infrastructures, expanding mobile connectivity, fast-rising smartphone and pay-tv penetration, greater fiber uptake and the desire to improve the regulatory environment, will make multiscreen audiovisual content more readily available and soon put tens of millions of customers in play.

In the next four years, Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa’s appetite for multiscreen programs will explode and annual acquisition budgets are expected to double, reaching $300 Million.

In such a vibrant context, DISCOP Abidjan is 100% focused on business and high-level networking and has become the #1 destination for key players driving Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa’s content development, production and distribution industries.

The next edition of DISCOP Abidjan will bring together 600+ key delegates representing:

150+ TOP BUYING COMPANIES representing public and commercial broadcasters; cable / satellite pay-tv networks; telecoms and mobile operators; and streaming platforms operating in Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa;

100+ TOP CONTENT PRODUCERS representing film, television and digital, multiscreen content production companies from Francophone Sub-Sahara Africa with projects in development and works in progress;

50+ GLOBAL & REGIONAL CONTENT DISTRIBUTORS offering finished programs, adaptation rights and packaged channels;

50+ PERIPHERAL COMPANIES representing advertising agencies, financiers, regulators, advisory firms, research consultancies, and governmental institutions.

All of our delegates are entitled to advance matchmaking assistance and content support through our DISCOP CLUB platform. Running parallel to the market, a sidebar conference, development and knowledge-transfer program will address important issues impacting the development of a sustainable content development, production and distribution sector across Francophone Sub-Saharan Francophone Africa.

Canada will be DISCOP Abidjan 2019's 'Guest Country'.
